DOMAIN:

Identity / Alienation /

Withdrawal from the Symbolic

CORE MEANING:

The attempt to escape social inscription by retreating into the image of self. An effort that replaces society with reflection.

CLINICAL DESCRIPTION:

A condition in which the subject withdraws from social structures, language, and roles, seeking refuge in the immediacy of the body and its reflection. The mirror becomes an alternative space: private, silent, and autonomous.

Core pathology:

Specular withdrawal.

SYMPTOMS:

-Avoidance of social interaction and symbolic roles

-Preference for enclosed, private, or abandoned spaces

-Retreat into bodily presence as resistance to social meaning

-Tension between autonomy and isolation

-Fragmented sense of identity outside social recognition

PROGNOSIS:

Total escape from symbolic order is impossible. Withdrawal produces temporary relief, but identity remains suspended, neither fully social or fully free.
