CLINICAL DESCRIPTION:
A condition in which the subject withdraws from social roles and interactions. Attention shifts towards self discovery.
CORE PATHOLOGY:
Reflective withdrawal.
SYMPTOMS:
-Avoidance of social interaction and symbolic roles
-Preference for private, or abandoned spaces
-Retreat into self-observation
-Distance from others in the search for independence
-Identity becomes unstable outside social roles
PROGNOSIS:
Withdrawal produces temporary relief, but identity remains suspended, neither fully social or fully free.
