SYMPTOMS:
-Heightened surveillance of bodily changes
-Anxiety triggered by visible markers of ageing
-Attempts to preserve or reconstruct earlier physical states
-Increasing identification of self with external appearance
-Perception of time as hostile rather than neutral
PROGNOSIS:
Defensive preservation temporarily stabilises identity coherence, but progressively increases dependence on aesthetic mediation.
Over time, the subject becomes organised around resisting irreversible change.
